This is my foster puppy Butterball. Of course she is in my life currently, but i am tempted to foster fail-- which means to adopt her myself. If I do that, I may not be able to foster other dogs in the future. Its a difficult decision. This baby has been with me (of & on due to adoption failures) since she was 8 weeks old-- she's 7 months old now. I love her.
My birthday started off with a bang. My foster pup, Butterball, developed hives yesterday. We kept an eye on her all day (and kept in contact with the board members of the rescue group). Since the hives weren't bothering her, we were trying to wait until today to take her to the vet. Well, at 2:15am today I woke up because she was wheezing. Her poor little face was all swollen, plus she had hives all over her body!
We jumped out of bed and drove all the way across town to the 24 hr emergency vet. They gave her a couple shots and now she's back to normal. After all that drama, I called into work and slept in. Now I'm getting ready to take my other foster dog to the vet for a checkup.
We have a new foster dog! His name is Blue Ice (Blue for short). He has stunning blue eyes.
Blue was found as a stray wandering the streets in freezing temps. He had frostbite on several areas of his body and some minor cuts and scrapes. He's doing well now, the vet has taken care of everything. Blue is just happy to be in a home with a soft bed to sleep on!
Blue adores my husband and follows him around the house like a shadow- its really cute. I really like Blue, and am anticipating his stitches (neuter) coming out so I can give him a bath. This guy is a little stinky! :-)
I dont' have too many details, but I found out that the adopters have been approved and are driving SIX HOURS to come get my little girl on Monday. They must think she's pretty special to come all that way! I'm happy for her that she's going to get spoiled by a new home.
This means that we are either going to get a new foster pup or adult in a week or so! Yeah! New dogs to photograph :-)
**yes in the top photo she's wearing infant clothes. she gets so cold when she goes outside that we needed something for her!**
here's a better solution!

Help, I Need to Place My Kids...
They are not Dog Friendly!
Please help! After two long years of being on a waiting list for an exotic rare breed dog, we were finally notified by the breeder that at long last, our number has come up, and... WE'RE HAVING A PUPPY!We must IMMEDIATELY get rid of our children now, because we just KNOW how time consuming our new little puppy is going to be! Since our puppy will be arriving on Monday, we MUST place the children in new homes this weekend!!!They are described as: One male, white, blonde hair, blue eyes. Four years old. Excellent disposition. He doesn't bite. Name is Tommy. Temperament tested. Current on all shots. Tonsils removed already and very healthy condition!Tommy eats everything, is very clean, house trained and gets along well with others. Does not run with scissors and with a little time and training, he will do well in a new home. One female, strawberry blonde hair, green eyes. Three years old. Can be surly at times. Non-biter, thumb sucker Her name is Mary. Temperament tested, but needs a little attitude adjusting occasionally. She is current on all shots, tonsils out, and is very healthy and happy (mostly.) Gets along well with little boys, but does not like to share toys. She is house trained, and would do best in a one child household. We really LOVE our children, and want to do what is best for them. I hope you understand, that ours is a UNIQUE situation, and we have a real emergency here! They MUST be placed by Sunday night at the latest.-author unknown
(if we knew who it was we'd send them flowers and a box of candy)
I spent my lunch hour today transporting puppies!
Yesterday Butterball (my favorite!) went to a new foster home. I miss her. Tonight, I'm going on a home-check for Pecan- so she might go to her forever home this evening!
This is why I spent my lunch hour picking up my two new fosters: Apple Crumb & Candy Yam. They are from the same litter as my other two (which is why they have the weird food names). I didn't have time to take any photos when I brought them home, but you can see them here.
I dropped them off at home with enough time to clean up the crate, feed them a snack, clean up the snack-mess, turn around and leave. Phew! I think staying at work may have been easier-- but not as fun.
My foster dog, Jude, went to her permanent home last Saturday!! One of the senior volunteers took her and said the meeting went great. I miss her, but I know she will be happy.
Our house won't be empty for long! Just as our dogs, Jersey & Sampson, and our cat, Chloe, are getting used to life without a foster dog, we are getting in THREE PUPPIES!
That's right. I'm insane. MPR has 18 puppies right now (in various foster homes) and I have agreed to foster 3 of them to lessen the load for someone else. The group of puppies we are getting were the group from Thanksgiving. The pups are adorable, and I can't wait to see them!
I'm crossing my fingers that we can adopt the puppies out to loving homes quickly. Don't you wanna take one of these cuties home?
Show us something you think isn't written about enough.
The plight of the pitbull. Sure, you hear all kinds of horror stories about people being attacked, but did you know that many of those reports are inaccurate?
Pitbulls are loving, loyal dogs that have been given bad reputation. Because of this bad reputation, many of these poor dogs are unable to get into loving environments.
As I've blogged before, I volunteer with Missouri Pitbull Rescue. This has been one of the best decisions i've made for myself. I really enjoy the interaction with all the dogs. I feel like I'm making a difference in their lives, and they are making one in mine.
Sometimes, I wish I could do more for the dogs. Right now, MPR has made a wish list of items that each dog needs. My goal is to tell people about the items that are needed and get as many donations as possible. Also, MPR has set up a way to make a donation in someone's elses name or honor for the holidays. Rather than receive gifts this year, I'd like to have the needy pitbulls get what they need. I don't think I say that enough, or that we hear that enough from other people.
This past Saturday, my husband and I gave up our day to drive a foster dog to his new parents. We spent three hours in the car roundtrip. The people had already been home-checked and everything was fine-- until today.
The idiots decided that two dogs are a lot of work (NO KIDDING?!!), and they can't really devote the time they need to the dog they adopted from us, Drizzle. Now someone in our group has to make a drive back down to pick him up from these jackasses.
How could you do that to this little guy? I mean really! Don't they realize the car rides and changing houses is tramatic for him? How damn selfish! People are so stupid. I didn't give up my Saturday just so some idiots could change their minds.
I guess i'm mad at myself too. I thought they were a nice couple and would take care of Drizzle. I should've seen a warning sign or something. Poor guy. Now he'll be back on our list of adoptables.
Seriously people, if you are evening THINKING about getting a dog... really do think about it.
Come meet the MPR dogs this weekend! We'll be at the Fish Shack Two, 1603 W. 39th Street, KC, MO.
My husband and I will be there with our foster dog Jude. We'll also be looking to recruit volunteers and more foster parents!
Right now MPR needs volunteers to spend time with some of the dogs we have in boarding. We have so many dogs in the program, we can't foster them all! We are looking for some good people to come spend time with the boarded dogs, and assist with events. Even if you can't foster, you can help! It doesn't take any money, just time (and maybe some gas/transportation).
We are also looking for some foster parents for our dogs. Either so we can rescue more, or optimally get our dogs out of boarding (cause it costs our group $$).
