I'm sick of my job. I'm going to start hunting around.
Our current director talks to me in a demeaning way, and i'm not going to stick around here anymore. I'm hoping just to find a better department. yup.
What was your major or field of study in college? Did you wind up working in that field or using that degree? If not, what field have you wound up in?

My degree is a Bachelors of Science in Photography. I used it for 2.5 years out of college, until "seasonal cutbacks" at the professional photography lab where I worked. I learned that it is normal for the professional labs to lay off senior staff members, especially those with degrees so they won't have to pay them as much money (nice business practice, huh?). To quote my old supervisor, "I can pull any monkey off the street and train him in a few months to color correct for a lot less."
While I still love photography, I don't have the time or capital to start my own business. For the time being, I'm working as an admin assistant in the local university. One day I hope to get back to what I love to do-- and next time I want to be my own boss!
How do you know what its like to be me?
You don't spend time in my shoes. You've never had a migraine. You don't know what its like to be sensitive to every sound in the room, every flickering light.
How can you say that what I feel isn't real?
I am in pain. I get sick, I cry. Is that not real enough for you?!
How dare you tell me that I'm "crying wolf"!
I want to do my job. I'm not "faking it" to get out of life. I want to be a good, reliable person. I don't want to be labeled as incompetent.
How can you say this isn't what migraines are supposed to be like?
You've never had one. Just because you have a friend of a friend who has migraines DOES NOT make you an expert. I've lived this way for years. This is normal- for me. As someone in a "social" field, you should damn well know everyone is unique.
Have you ever gone to a neurologist, hospital, or emergency room for migraines? no? then shut the hell up. Just let me do my job without feeling worthless, guilty and embarrassed. 'Cause if you can't tell, making me feel (emotionally) like crap, just makes everything worse.
