As of today, I have resigned volunteering with Missouri PitBull Rescue.
I cannot express how sad I am for having to leave, but I cannot deal with the drama surrounding this half-assed dis-organization. I agree with the mission and ideals, but I am too old to pretend I'm in high school spending my time gossiping. So many of the board members are two-faced, and the president is an outright liar.
Everything came to a head when I was asked to put together a cookbook. I got approval for it via email and went on with the printing. At the time, we were having a "dog crisis", so i said that i would pay for the books up front, then get reimbursed. That way, MPR wouldn't have to put it on the credit card.
Last week, i held a garage sale at my house, with 100% of the proceeds going to MPR. We made close to $1000 on the garage sale items and cookbooks. Once the sale was over, i told the president the total of the sale, and that i would deduct my $372 from the printing costs of the cookbooks. I had a receipt for her, and she could pick up the money whenever. She flipped the F out. She starting saying how the cookbooks were my deal, and if they all sold then I could get my money back-- which wasn't the original deal.
She told me that she would be at my house on Wednesday night at 7pm. Well, no one showed up. Finally today, 2 volunteers and a board member came over to get the money. We gave them all of our MPR items and said that we were done. They had requested earlier that the puppies we were fostering go to another house-- fine with me.
Not even one minute after they left, the president of MPR called and started yelling on the phone to my husband. She said we stole the $372 (cause we had already deposited that money into our checking account to cover the cost of the books), and now tons of pitbulls were going to die because of us. Later, she sent emails out to the group saying that we stole the money and abandoned the puppies!
I may be a lot of things, but I am not a thief, and I am not a liar. If MPR would shut their traps and sell the cookbooks, they could make $1200-- but they'd rather boo-hoo, and make me out to be an evil person.
I loved doing animal rescue. I didn't care if i was covered in dirt and dog hair, running across town to help animals. The only time i had any problems was when the board members [ie the pres] were disrespectful to me. I am so sad that this happened the way it did. I would like to do rescue again, but now I'm afraid that all organizations are run this badly.
Our foster dog, Blue Ice, was adopted today! I was not ready for it at all. The application originally came in for another dog, so i didn't even pay attention to it. I was out at a family picnic when the head of the rescue group called, and wanted to do the homecheck asap with Blue. We gave her the code to get into the house, and she picked Blue up. I didn't think anything of it. A lot of times peole will want to meet a dog, then think it over. Well, the check went really well, and they decided to keep Blue! I didn't get to say goodbye :-( I hope he loves his new home, and they take extra-good care of him.
Butterball has been wandering the house looking for Blue ever since we got home. Blue has been her playmate since the month after she came to live with us (5 months now!). The house is a lot quieter now without Blue and Butters tussling about!
Show us a picture of the pet you'd most like to have in your life.
This is my foster puppy Butterball. Of course she is in my life currently, but i am tempted to foster fail-- which means to adopt her myself. If I do that, I may not be able to foster other dogs in the future. Its a difficult decision. This baby has been with me (of & on due to adoption failures) since she was 8 weeks old-- she's 7 months old now. I love her.
Dick Dale's 'Shirt off our Backs' charity auction on ebay. All proceeds will be donated to MPR!
The local media caught wind that MPR's Celebrity Scoop Fundraiser had to be canceled due to threats received by the Maggie Moo's store. I appreciate all the great publicity it's bringing to MPR, but I wish they would remember to thank Maggie Moo's! The manager and staff at that store were great to our group. Even though the event was canceled, they are still making the donation to MPR-- plus they have to deal with all the phonecalls! I think everyone needs to take a deep breath, and calm down.

this event was "canceled" due to some ignorant people making threatening phone calls to the Maggie Moo's. Even though the Celebrity Scoop isn't happening, i'm still going! Join me and lets show those idiots we won't be scared off!

Ok, so its just the Independence Examiner, but still.
Missouri PitBull Rescue is holding a fundraiser tomorrow night in Independence, and I was contacted for the article. The writing isn't the best, but any positive Pittie press is ok by me!

Today was dedicated to the foster dogs. From 11-3 we took Butterball to Petco for an adoption event with the other two puppies in the group. Cornbread is her litter-brother, and she was fostered with Lennox for a short time, so it was a fun mini-reunion for the pups. They spent the day goofing and getting tons of love from the shoppers.
This evening, we took both Butterball and Blue Ice to an obedience training class. The trainer is donating her time/knowledge to MPR to help train us to train our foster dogs. My little Butterball did so great! For an 18-week-old puppy she knows her stuff. The class was fun, but I am worn out (so are the dogs). I have a lot of good ideas to take home to train our own dogs with now!
I had a fun some-what suprise this weekend. MPR named Scott & I the featured voluteers for March! And our foster, Blue Ice is the March Centerfold. To top it off, the banner for the homepage this month is a photo of Blue and Butterball cuddling that I took! :-)
