I found this on Missouri Pitbull Rescue's monthly newsletter. I found it very interested, so i decided to share. This gives a good insight on the bad press that pitties get.

THE PIT BULL PAPARAZZI The assassination of a breed through biased reporting Consider four separate incidents that happened in the span of a few days

People routinely cite media coverage as proof that pit bulls are more dangerous than other dogs. Costly and ineffective public policy decisions are being made on the basis of such "proof". While this biased reporting is not only lethal to an entire population of dogs ; sensationalized media coverage endangers the public by misleading them about the real factors in canine aggression. All information was researched and is fully documented by Karen Delise, LVT | |
It doesn't sound right to me! If people are so focused on "dangerous dogs" why not all of them? Why just single out a particular breed?

Interesting concept. Forgetting the comforts of a roof over your head (except a car-roof, but that doesn't exactly count, right?), and all of life's "necessities" (kitchen, bathroom, etc) and living in your vehicle to save money. Sure, it would be a great way to save money- in theory, but i don't think i'd have the balls to pack up my things and move into my vehicle.
The idea itself is strangely romantic-- tossing off the cares of the world and becoming "free". If you have a car and no real bills to speak of, why not travel? Or as this student did, make it a social experiment.
Hmmm... gets me thinking.
I heard one of the most disturbing news stories recently. This happened in the city where I live. Video
This woman was in need of help, obviously, and the police officers ignored her. They were more "worried" about busting her for something rather than getting her medical attention. For city employees that are supposed to help those in need (not just "bust criminals"), these officers did a horrible thing. The woman delivered her baby the next day stillborn.
Even if they had wanted to make sure she wasn't faking, they could've taken her to the hospital and been there while she was examined. Afterwards they could've done whatever necesssary for her crimes. Shouldn't a person's health come first?! Criminals who are shot/hurt during the crime at least get that much care.
I really think these officers need to be fired. I don't want to be pulled over by them. Who knows what may happen.
as a quasi- update to my blog yesterday That's determination, I was reading another news story.
This one happens to be about a California law maker wanting to make it ILLEGAL to spank your kids. She wants to ban spanking children 3 and under [the ages when you should start!]
Seems to me, its this kind of thinking that leads to the behavior of the child in the news story I read yesterday. When are people going to wake up, pay some damn attention to their kids, and discipline them when they need it!!
I heard this news story on the radio this afternoon, so I came home and looked it up online. A 9-year-old boy in Seattle decided he hated it at home so much, so he "ran away." After several failed attempts at stealing cars-- because the police caught him after he blew the engine, he then got on a bus and went to the airport and flew to San Antonio, TX where he was arrested. That's right, a 9 year old boy.
Is it me, or are kids getting smarter? Or is it ballsier? I would never have dared running away, let alone near what this CHILD did. I find it amazing, and damn scary.
What I can't figure out is why no one questioned him. When he showed up at the ticket counter with the name that was paged, didn't they have any information on the passenger? Why didn't someone page his "mother" to meet up with him?
And its sad that his mother doesn't have anything more to say than she does. No wonder the poor kid wants to get away.
my husband sent me a link to this article from NPR. here's an excerpt:
All Things Considered, December 14, 2006 · A fence-building company in Southern California agrees to pay nearly $5 million in fines for hiring illegal immigrants. Two executives from the company may also serve jail time. The Golden State Fence Company's work includes some of the border fence between San Diego and Mexico.
I find this very amusing. I personally don't mind that the company was employing illegal immigrants. if you read the entire article they were told in 1999 to stop, but they didn't. Our idiot goverment kept giving the company contracts. Now really, if our government was so concerned why did they still use this company? So now when they catch them again in 2004 & in 2005 they're going to punish them!? That's stupid. And far more harshly that any other company. Why not take the workers away... or better yet, don't give them government contracts--- if that is the message they want to send. But sending the executives to jail? that just doesn't make sense... but how much of anything this adminstration does make sense?
