Our foster dog, Blue Ice, was adopted today! I was not ready for it at all. The application originally came in for another dog, so i didn't even pay attention to it. I was out at a family picnic when the head of the rescue group called, and wanted to do the homecheck asap with Blue. We gave her the code to get into the house, and she picked Blue up. I didn't think anything of it. A lot of times peole will want to meet a dog, then think it over. Well, the check went really well, and they decided to keep Blue! I didn't get to say goodbye :-( I hope he loves his new home, and they take extra-good care of him.
Butterball has been wandering the house looking for Blue ever since we got home. Blue has been her playmate since the month after she came to live with us (5 months now!). The house is a lot quieter now without Blue and Butters tussling about!
We have a new foster dog! His name is Blue Ice (Blue for short). He has stunning blue eyes.
Blue was found as a stray wandering the streets in freezing temps. He had frostbite on several areas of his body and some minor cuts and scrapes. He's doing well now, the vet has taken care of everything. Blue is just happy to be in a home with a soft bed to sleep on!
Blue adores my husband and follows him around the house like a shadow- its really cute. I really like Blue, and am anticipating his stitches (neuter) coming out so I can give him a bath. This guy is a little stinky! :-)
Which breed of dog is your favorite? Post a picture of it.

I heart pitbulls. They are loyal, loving dogs. Pit bulls are truly man's best friend.
excerpt from www.mprgroup.net:
"Why Do We Love Pit Bulls?
So why do we love dogs that are so challenging with other pets? Too many reasons to count.... Many Pit Bull fanciers fell in love with the breed by accident and quickly discovered how affectionate, adaptable, eager to please, enthusiastic, comical, and fun-loving Pit Bulls are. Most agree that they will never have another breed.
Indeed, you will rarely meet more loving and dedicated dogs. Pit Bulls are very people-oriented and they truly enjoy attention and affection - In fact, they seem to never get enough of it. If you are looking for an independent dog that can live outside, a Pit Bull is NOT the dog for you. These dogs crave human interaction and are true lap dogs at heart. It may be because they don't always get along with other dogs that Pit bulls are so devoted to humans - We don't know for sure, but they are definitely remarkably people-loving. Pit Bull owners will tell you that nothing beats cuddling with a warm Pit Bull on the couch.
Pit Bulls also have an incomparable eagerness to please. Positive training does wonders with this breed and allows owners to train their dog in all kind of sport and activities. Pit Bulls are smart, alert, and thrive on making their loved-ones happy. Show them great enthusiasm when they do something good and they will repeat it just to see that look in your face again and again.
| Another pleasant trait of the breed is their great sense of humor. Pit Bulls can remain silly clowns very late in life. In fact, they don't seem to ever loose that spark for life. A happy Pit Bull will wag his whole body and the joyful expression in his eyes is impossible to miss. Even dogs that are rescued from very difficult situations usually keep a very positive and uplifting spirit. Nothing is better than a Pit Bull's smile to cheer you up after a hard day at work. They are great moral boosters and constant source of inspiration and laughs. |
As if this was not enough, Pit Bulls are simply gorgeous. They have a perfectly proportioned and athletic body, built for performance. While they are always ready for action, they also enjoy being couch potatoes. They are the perfect size for every lifestyle and still fit on your lap, they require very little grooming, and they come in every coat color and pattern possible. They truly are beautiful inside out."
My foster dog, Jude, went to her permanent home last Saturday!! One of the senior volunteers took her and said the meeting went great. I miss her, but I know she will be happy.
Our house won't be empty for long! Just as our dogs, Jersey & Sampson, and our cat, Chloe, are getting used to life without a foster dog, we are getting in THREE PUPPIES!
That's right. I'm insane. MPR has 18 puppies right now (in various foster homes) and I have agreed to foster 3 of them to lessen the load for someone else. The group of puppies we are getting were the group from Thanksgiving. The pups are adorable, and I can't wait to see them!
I'm crossing my fingers that we can adopt the puppies out to loving homes quickly. Don't you wanna take one of these cuties home?
Show us something you think isn't written about enough.
The plight of the pitbull. Sure, you hear all kinds of horror stories about people being attacked, but did you know that many of those reports are inaccurate?
Pitbulls are loving, loyal dogs that have been given bad reputation. Because of this bad reputation, many of these poor dogs are unable to get into loving environments.
As I've blogged before, I volunteer with Missouri Pitbull Rescue. This has been one of the best decisions i've made for myself. I really enjoy the interaction with all the dogs. I feel like I'm making a difference in their lives, and they are making one in mine.
Sometimes, I wish I could do more for the dogs. Right now, MPR has made a wish list of items that each dog needs. My goal is to tell people about the items that are needed and get as many donations as possible. Also, MPR has set up a way to make a donation in someone's elses name or honor for the holidays. Rather than receive gifts this year, I'd like to have the needy pitbulls get what they need. I don't think I say that enough, or that we hear that enough from other people.
Amnesty Day for Kansas City Pitbull Owners
October 6th , 2007
KCMO Pit Bull Spay and Neuter Amnesty Day
3710 Main Street
9am to Noon
Spay and Neuter Kansas City is working with KCMO Animal Health and Public Safety to allow a one-time opportunity for Pit Bull owners to comply with mandatory spay and neuter ordinance. A special rabies clinic will be held on October 6 th from 9am to noon at 3710 Main Street, KCMO. On this day only, KCMO Pit Bull owners can come in and purchase a current $5 rabies vaccinations. City licensing for an altered pet is $12 and for an unaltered pet is $33. Pit Bull owners who participate in this clinic will be scheduled for a free spay and neuter for their Pit Bull.
In August of 2006, KCMO City Council passed ordinance # 060806, which calls for the mandatory spaying and neutering of every Pit Bull and Pit Bull mix in Kansas City, MO. Penalties for failure to spay or neuter can result in fines up to $500 and impoundment of the Pit Bull.
This is an EXCELLENT opportunity for those who cannot afford spay or neuter for their pet. Its also a discounted price on the vaccination. If you know anyone who can benefit from this, please pass the info along!
I found this on Missouri Pitbull Rescue's monthly newsletter. I found it very interested, so i decided to share. This gives a good insight on the bad press that pitties get.

THE PIT BULL PAPARAZZI The assassination of a breed through biased reporting Consider four separate incidents that happened in the span of a few days
|
|
|
People routinely cite media coverage as proof that pit bulls are more dangerous than other dogs. Costly and ineffective public policy decisions are being made on the basis of such "proof". While this biased reporting is not only lethal to an entire population of dogs ; sensationalized media coverage endangers the public by misleading them about the real factors in canine aggression. All information was researched and is fully documented by Karen Delise, LVT | |
It doesn't sound right to me! If people are so focused on "dangerous dogs" why not all of them? Why just single out a particular breed?
What decision changed the course of your life?
Submitted by Ally.
As told in my pet-post, I would say that adopting animals changed my life.
This evening, hubby and I made another possibly life-altering decision. We applied to become foster parents for the Missouri PitBull Rescue (MPR). Pending the application processing, and evaluation of our current pets and home, we may very well have a new happy face join our house!
I have been interested in volunteering for an animal charity for the past several months. In lieu of becoming a kennel cleaner for the local shelter, I think we can make a bigger impact through MPR. They will be able to rescue more dogs from "death row" because of people fostering the animals for adoption. If you are interested in helping, check our their website, or make a donation!
I'm excited to make a difference, even if its only one dog at a time.
